About the Job
We have a job opportunity for a Senior Technical Director who will be responsible for leading the technical direction across HPA’s architectural projects. The position requires deep architectural knowledge, exceptional communication skills and a collaborative mindset to uphold the firm’s standards of precision, performance and constructability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design & Technical Oversight: Reviews the design of HPA projects for compliance with technical best practices. Participates in design presentations.
- Quality Assurance: Leads the firm’s Quality Assurance Plan, including managing reviews of architectural drawings and project documentation at milestone phases, and developing firmwide protocols and checklists, to ensure that technical design and documentation are accurate, detailed and buildable.
- Project Specifications: Oversees the development of project specifications that align materials and systems with design intent and performance criteria.
- Mentorship & Staff Development: Mentors junior staff and project architects, sharing expertise in construction documentation, administration, and site observation.
- Construction Administration Support: Acts as a firmwide support during the construction administration phase, reviewing and advising on shop drawings, and resolving critical technical issues in the field.
- Technical Consulting: Acts as a subject matter expert, advising teams on appropriate materials, structural systems, and innovative technical solutions for complex challenges.
- Client Interaction & Communication Skills: Interfaces with clients, contractors and building authorities to negotiate and resolve project-related technical issues. Represents the firm well in public settings. Able to communicate big-picture vision and objectives.
Applicant Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- B. Arch or M. Arch degree from a NAAB-accredited program.
- 15+ years of experience.
- Proficient with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Expert-level knowledge of architectural building systems, materials, construction techniques, building codes and sustainable practices.
- Ability to creatively devise solutions to work around existing conditions and other limitations, and present multiple ways to respond to a given set of design problems.
- Ability to work together as a member of a team for a common purpose or benefit while working individually on given tasks.
- Ability to adapt to variety in the workplace, and to take on new responsibilities and challenges.
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Can articulate ideas persuasively.
