Senior Director of Advocacy and Special Projects

Joan Pomaranc, Hon. AIA Chicago

Joan Pomaranc is a longtime member of the AIA Chicago staff. After serving as Program Director for many years, she is now the Senior Director of Advocacy and Special Projects. In line with the chapter’s Strategic Plan, advocacy efforts include enhancing relationships between the chapter and local government; supporting the continuation of the Chicago Building Code update; developing key initiatives that reflect members’ commitment to sustainability; and working with professional and civic partners to accomplish these goals.  

Joan is also an Architect Licensing Advisor, providing information to emerging architects on behalf of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). She has worked on all four editions of the AIA Guide to Chicago and was made an honorary member of AIA Chicago in 2003. Her background is in historic preservation and urban planning.
