2023 Lifetime Achievement Award Rules and Regulations
AIA Chicago’s Lifetime Achievement Award for the Profession of Architecture recognizes the achievements of architects who have consistently contributed to the quality of the built environment and have had a lasting influence on Chicago architecture, the architecture community, and the profession. Only one Lifetime Achievement Award winner is selected per calendar year.
Any Licensed Architect who has practiced for 30 years or more and has been an AIA Chicago Member for 10 years or more may be nominated by any AIA Chicago Member. Members may also nominate themselves.
Candidates will be evaluated on how well they meet the following criteria:
- The candidate shall have created a cumulative and positive effect on the profession through design, service, and mentorship.
- The candidate has demonstrated leadership within the architectural community and is an acknowledged ambassador for architecture beyond the architecture community.
- The candidate shall be widely known by their individual quality of work; by practicing architecture, by teaching/mentoring architecture, by writing about architecture or by combination of the above.
2023 Nomination and Selection Process
Phase 1: General nominations open June 1 and are due by June 22. Click here to submit a nomination.
A committee of AIA Chicago members (including Fellows and past Lifetime Achievement Award winners) will review all submissions and identify nominees to move to the second phase of the selection process.
Phase 2: In phase two, selected nominees will be asked to provide additional information to be presented to the AIA Chicago Board of Directors. Additional materials will include CV/bio, headshot, project images, list of significant works, publications about/by nominee, and peer references and will be due July 17.
The AIA Chicago Board of Directors will make a final selection and the winner will be notified in late July.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred on September 28, 2023, at Designight.
