AIA Knowledge Communities
Overview
Knowledge Communities are practice-area or professional-based interest groups of AIA Chicago's membership organized for the purposes of sharing information, organizing learning opportunities and events, and networking. Chapter Knowledge Communities correspond to the AIA national's but are not necessarily affiliated.
In participating in a Knowledge Community, AIA Chicago members can:

Active AIA Knowledge Communities

Building Enclosure Council (BEC)
BEC-Chicago is a community of people within the construction industry with interest and expertise in the design and construction of building enclosures.

Committee on the Environment + 2030 Commitment (COTE)
COTE is an AIA Knowledge Community that provides an actionable climate strategy plan with a set of standards and goals for reaching net zero emissions in the built environment by 2030.

Custom Residential Architecture Network (CRAN)
CRAN Chicago provides a vibrant meeting place for practitioners within the Custom Residential Architectural community to share knowledge, experiences, resources, and events.

Design
The AIA Chicago Design Knowledge Committee focuses on showcasing the design excellence of AIA Chicago member firms through firm visits, educational programs, and building tours.

Design for Aging
The mission of the AIA Chicago Design for Aging Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the quality of life for an aging society through the built environment.

Education
The Education Knowledge Community works to connect designers, instructors, administrators and other professionals involved in the development and use of educational environments.

Healthcare
The AIA Chicago Healthcare Knowledge Community (HCKC) aims to support local healthcare design professionals and affiliated groups.

Historic Resources
The Historic Resources Knowledge Community is a space for architects to share the role as stewards of existing buildings in creating and maintaining a just, sustainable, and equitable built environment.

Interior Architecture
The Interior Architecture Knowledge Community provides a forum for investigation and conversation respective to the nuances of the practice.

Small Firm Exchange (SFx)
The mission of SFx Chicago is to advance the mutual interests of architects practicing in small firms.
