The Architectural Planner position is primarily responsible for collaborating on the development of architectural drawings, project scope documents, and design and condition reviews for the Planning and Design team within PSPM for projects related to learning environments, interior public spaces, building exteriors and grounds. This position also assists in developing campus design standards and policies related to new buildings, grounds, existing exteriors, interiors, painting, and environmental signage. The Architectural Planner will also produce renderings and other visualizations to represent campus architecture and learning environment efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • For projects related to campus architecture, learning environments, grounds, and environmental signage, develop and draw conceptual design studies and scope of work documents and prepare and deliver high quality graphics, visualizations, and presentations of that work.
  • Assist in the preparation of graphics, visualizations, and presentations for periodic campus architecture and learning environments efforts.
  • Collaborate with project teams on assigned projects and direct work to ensure that office objectives are met including site visits and meetings with staff from various colleges and units.
  • Review and provide commentary on project design and construction drawings prepared by professional consultants and cost estimates prepared by contractors.
  • Assist with the selection and procurement of finishes, furniture, equipment, and artwork in public spaces, student lounges (oases), and classrooms.
  • Collaborate with vendors and consultants to coordinate work to ensure that team objectives are met.
  • Assist with classroom and oasis operations, coordinating with Facilities Management representatives and other units as needed.
  • Assist Associate Director for Campus Architecture and Learning Environments in the development of multi-year plans for learning space projects by periodically assessing and recording the condition of furniture and finishes in classrooms and oases.
  • Monitor construction progress, perform inspections, and implement post-occupancy evaluations for campus architecture, learning environments, grounds, and environmental signage.
  • Assist in providing advice to other campus units regarding campus architecture and learning environments design standards, applicable codes and guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, from a NAAB accredited institution, required.
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in architectural design required.
  • Working knowledge of architectural and campus design principles.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and SketchUp.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to develop detailed floor plans and other architectural renderings using design software to communicate concepts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design and space ideas through visual and written formats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, from a NAAB accredited institution, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in a higher education institution is preferred.
  • Experience with Revit/BIM software preferred.
