Summary
A former 100,000 sq. ft. industrial meatpacking facility located in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, The Plant was re-developed in 2010 and now serves as a research and production facility that demonstrates techniques for reimagining waste as a resource, achieving economies of scale and incubating small businesses. The Plant currently houses more than twenty small business, including indoor and outdoor farms, kombucha and beer breweries, a bakery, a cheese distributor, a coffee roaster and other emerging food producers and distributors.
Join AIA Chicago’s Committee on the Environment/2030 Commitment Knowledge Community and Community Engagement Affinity Group for an hour-long tour of this innovative adaptive reuse facility followed by a social at Whiner Beer Company, one of the long-term tenants of The Plant. Space is limited for tour, but all are welcome to join us at Whiner Beer Company. Beer and BBQ will be available for purchase.
