NCARB & You: Becoming a Licensed Architect in Illinois

Summary

Are you charting your course to becoming a licensed architect? Whether you’re gearing up for the Architect Experience Program (AXP) or the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), actively documenting hours, or considering the portfolio path with over 5 years of experience, this event is for you. We also welcome those educated or licensed internationally and those guiding future architects as supervisors or mentors.

This event is for you if you:

  • Are ready to participate in the Architect Experience Program (AXP) or the Architect Registration Examination (AXP)
  • Are already documenting your AXP hours or taking the ARE
  • Have more than 5 years of experience and want to become licensed through the portfolio process
  • Were educated or licensed outside the U.S.
  • Are supervising or mentoring AXP or ARE candidates

Martin Smith, AIA, NCARB, Assistant Vice President, Experience + Education, NCARB

Martin Smith is an architect licensed in NY State who currently works for NCARB as the Assistant Vice President, Policy + International Relations. His role is to lead the development and oversight of education and experience requirements for licensure as an architect, train and grow the architect licensing advisors community, and engage students, licensure candidates, and architects through outreach for NCARB.
