Behind every great design concept, there are details created to push the concept into a built reality. When evaluating a space, technical feasibility is essential to ensuring a fully integrated design solution.

Join the AIA Chicago Technical Knowledge Community for the Detail Decathlon, an in-person, fast-paced event bringing together Chicago architects and designers to present their most intriguing, technical, and complex construction details. Speakers will break down their approach to detailing, highlighting design challenges, code requirements, and technical execution. Following the presentations, all featured details will be pinned up for an interactive review session, open Q&A, and networking with light refreshments.

Learning Objectives:

1. Evaluate complex technical details from industry professionals and understand the methodologies used to develop them.
2. Analyze integrated design approaches that balance architectural details with MEP, fire protection, and building systems.
3. Identify occupant-centered factors in detail development, including acoustics, low-emitting material selections, security, and life-safety.
4. Apply relevant building codes and performance standards to the creation and review of architectural documentation.
