Summary
After the Second World War, North America became a welcoming refuge for a vast influx of displaced persons departing from Eastern Europe under Stalin’s rule. Among others, the Lithuanian community arrived with nostalgia for their homeland and a profound commitment to fighting for independence. Architecture emerged as a powerful tool for upholding cultural identity of the diaspora.
Vaidas Petrulis, Ph.D, architectural historian and researcher at Kaunas university of Technology in Lithuania, will provide a concise introduction to this relatively unexplored architectural legacy.
