Dawn Schuette, FAIA, Kelly Moynihan, AIA, and Scott Rappe, AIA
The Presidential Citation, awarded annually by the chapter President, has recognized individuals who have given outstanding service to the chapter, with a special emphasis given during the tenure of the sitting president.
This year, Drew Deering, AIA, 2022 AIA Chicago Board of Directors Chapter President has selected the following recipients.
Dawn’s interest in music and training in architecture led to the acoustic consulting field, working with end users and design professionals to enhance the aural experience in performance and education facilities, worship spaces, cultural buildings, and places of public assembly. Dawn’s interest and education in city planning gives her perspective beyond the interior of buildings to increase awareness of urban noise and the needs of the hearing impaired in all aspects of the built environment.
Dawn is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and past President of the Board of AIA Chicago. She serves the Alumni Board for her alma mater, Illinois Institute of Technology, currently active on Alumni Awards, International, and Career & Professional Development Committees.
Scott Rappe, AIA, served as AIA Chicago president in 2014, when the chapter last hosted the AIA Conference.
He is a partner at Semple+Rappe Architects, which he founded in 1998 as Kuklinski+Rappe Architects. Rappe received a Bachelor of Architecture with Distinction in Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1987, and a Master of Business Administration from the same institution in 1991. His undergraduate education included a year of architectural study in Versailles, France, a semester in Rome, Italy, and a practicum at the Stoneyard Institute at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in New York City. In addition to professional practice, he has served on the boards of the East Village Association, Preservation Chicago, the Chicago Architecture Center, and AIA Illinois.
Scott is being recognized for his exceptional contributions to AIA Chicago and its members while serving as the host chapter co-chair during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2022.
Kelly serves as Principal at HPZS, a women-led, women-owned architecture firm in Chicago; a design leader that pursues the preservation and creation of carbon-free, equitable, resilient, high-performance projects. A graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Minnesota, Kelly is an enthusiastic, multi-faceted architect with experience in multiple project types and scales including affordable housing, K-12 and higher education, historic preservation/renovation, adaptive reuse, and commercial interiors. She has led projects that prioritize sustainability, achieving certifications such as LEED Platinum, Passive House Certification, and Living Building Challenge Petal Certifications, resulting in several accolades such as AIA Illinois Honor, AIA Chicago Design Excellence, and AIA National COTE Top Ten Awards.
Kelly serves on AIA Chicago’s Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the COTE & 2030 Commitment Knowledge Community, AIA National’s 2030 DDx and Sustainability Action Plan Subcommittees, the Passive House Alliance Chicago Chapter Board of Directors, and participates in Illinois Green Alliance’s Chicago Building Advocacy Committee.
Kelly is being recognized for her exceptional contributions to AIA Chicago and its members while serving as the tours chair during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2022, which led over 4,000 AIA members on 78 tours in four days.
