Metra replaced an aging station with a fully accessible, multimodal headhouse serving commuter rail, Amtrak, and local bus users. Designed to unify services and reflect the character of nearby civic buildings, the new two-story structure anchors downtown Homewood with a transparent glass façade framed by massive concrete blocks that evoke permanence. At night, the building becomes a glowing beacon — both functional and symbolic — highlighting transit’s role as a visible community asset. Accessibility features include a ramp, updated elevator, and grand stair. Integrated landscape buffers enhance comfort, while the landmark design strengthens civic identity and delivers a seamless, dignified rider experience.
